Many years ago, I was chatting with long-time MSC-er, good pal, and now MSC Coach (Coach Gina!) about her summer plans. She said she’d take a little extra rest but keep training because, as she so wisely put it… “Starting over sucks.” Right then, it became my go-to mantra for when I needed a kick in the pants.
If you’re like most people, you kicked off the year fired up, crushed January, started feeling good, and now—six weeks in—you’re bored and thinking about a “break” or a “new routine.” Well, let me remind you… STARTING OVER SUCKS. Like, for real.
Remember how awful those first workouts felt? The soreness? The struggle? Then after a few weeks, you got in the groove, felt strong, and things got easier. If you take a long break, guess what? You’re right back at square one. Starting over sucks for your muscles.
Routine is literally good for your brain—it reduces mental effort, makes habits automatic, and saves you from decision fatigue (and let’s be real, our brains need all the help they can get). Starting over sucks for your brain.
Results come from consistency over months and years, not days. Your body needs time to adapt, and hopping from program to program isn’t the move. Starting over sucks for results.
Now, I’m not here to be a hardo, but I am here to support you, help you feel amazing, and give you what you need to succeed. So if you’ve built a solid routine this year—STICK WITH IT. Give it 6-12 months, and I promise, you’ll be way happier than if you keep hitting the reset button.
